Everybody who knows me, even just mere acquaintances, associates me with food. For some reason I overlook the true purpose of various daily activities in honor of food, glorious food. Every adventure for me becomes a culinary one. We're going to a baseball game? Awesome, lets get a hot dog. Family vacation? YES! - nightly restaurant excursions! We're going shopping down town today, mom? Perfect - we'll stop at Boudin's for clam chowder in a bread bowl. Regardless of where I go or what I'm doing, I am on a constant quest for delicious treats and memorable meals, because finding those things has become my definition of success - utter joy and satisfaction that the edible I carefully chose to consume met or exceeded my expectations.
That's not to say that I'm hard to please. Indeed, I have been fortunate enough to dine at some of the nicest restaurants in San Francisco, New York City, Paris, and even Hong Kong, but most of the time the simple classics that I get from the hole in the wall around the corner make the biggest dent in my culinary palette. To this day, the image of a San Franciscan Gordo's grilled chicken burrito wrapped in a steamed tortilla with melted jack cheese triggers my hunger pangs on command....oh man...getting hungry...
I decided to begin this blog for a number of reasons. For one, there is a burning food critic inside of me DYING to get out. No longer should I bore polite listeners with my fanatic food vents if they don't wish to hear it. Secondly, I have finally grown aware of a significant pattern in my life: the memories that are most vivid in my mind are those memories associated with notable food. Looking back on my travel journals and my diaries, I have noticed that food has always strongly impacted my life experiences. Thirdly, I am hoping that I can create a NY City diner's guide that my friends, colleagues, and family will grow to trust and refer to, or even just read for fun. I hereby promise to give honest reviews of the food and establishments that I find noteworthy.
So, here's a beginning of my adventure...but it will be an adventure that I know I will love. A no brainer for a food lover. I will eat, I will reflect, and I will report. Hope you like it and happy eating!
